Welcome to our guests

You come to us from different chapters of our lives – we met you, lived through moments together, and you were there for our important life events. It is you who connected us, and who found your way straight into our hearts.

With you, we can pick up a conversation exactly where we left off, and we can talk through both serious and joyful topics together. Even though the time we spent together wasn’t always measured in years, but sometimes only in months, the feeling that we’ve known you forever is a truly wonderful one.

Our dear guests come from different countries, different backgrounds, and span a wide range of ages – a truly diverse group. That’s why we have a small request for you – of course, only for those who feel like it – there will be a chance to get to know one another during the welcome beer hour at the start of the evening. Don’t hesitate to use Google Translate to make the getting-to-know-you process more enjoyable, and we believe that after a glass or two of liquid courage, the conversation will start flowing on its own 🙂

Our story

Once Upon a Time...

Once upon a time, in the city of Košice, the paths of two young people crossed for the very first time…
If you ask the bride, she’ll tell you their first meeting was at a house party hosted by a mutual German friend. If you ask the groom, though, he’ll insist their paths truly met only a week later, at a bar called Nembra, where he went to sit with his own crew, and where he’d invited several people from their shared group of friends.

Where It All Began

So how did this couple actually get together? It was during covid times, when there was nowhere to simply sit down together. But, unusually, the Christmas markets were open — it was the year 2021.

So one day the groom wrote in a group chat asking who felt like mulled wine and a walk around the markets. The bride happened to be free, so she simply wrote: “I can come.”

And with that short message, their shared journey began.

At that moment, neither of them had the slightest thought of ending up together.

At the end of the evening they had one last glass of wine at a pancake place on the main street, where the kind lady offered them a cushion so they could sit comfortably by the window, and remarked with a smile: “What a lovely couple!”

The bride quickly protested that they weren’t a couple at all, but thanked her kindly for the cushion. And it was the bride herself who told this little story to the groom.

Maybe There Was Something More...

Should the story have ended there? It seemed like it might…

Their paths parted that night, but a few hours later the groom sent the bride a message, ending it with a little heart. It surprised her quite a bit, but she let it be.

After Christmas, they went to the cinema together and started getting to know each other more.

And that’s how things went for the next couple of months. The bride still didn’t know where they stood, so she asked the groom directly.

He didn’t know either, so the bride gave him some time to think it over.

So... Are We Together?

Meanwhile, they had a trip to Budapest planned together with the bride’s maid of honor.

Late one evening, in a local pub, she asked the groom what was actually going on with her friend – whether they were together or not.

The groom answered clearly: “Yes, we are.”

The bride looked at him in surprise – she hadn’t known that at all!

The groom explained that, thinking back over their previous conversation, he’d concluded they were indeed together – he’d just forgotten to let the other half know.

And so it was decided that the day they got together would be March 25th, 2022.

And that is how our story began… and it continues now, right here, with you.

The Wedding and the Venue

Košice & Weather

Now let’s introduce the wedding and the venue. The wedding ceremony will take place in Košice.
What’s worth knowing about Košice: it’s a beautiful city, but it can get very windy, and the weather tends to turn cold rather suddenly. So we’d ask our dear guests to bring a light sweater along. On top of that, the weather can change and it may rain, so don’t forget your umbrellas either.

Getting to Košice

There are several ways to get to Košice. From Prague, we’d recommend flying or taking the train – the bus isn’t a very comfortable option for that trip. From Hungary, it’s best to come by car or train. From the rest of Slovakia, we’d suggest flying or taking the bus, since the current rail situation isn’t the best. If you happen to fly into Košice, there’s a direct bus from the airport into the city center – but before deciding to take it, do check the schedule in advance. You can also pre-book a taxi.

Accommodation

The event will take place in the city center, so you’ll have several accommodation options to choose from.

Unfortunately, for financial reasons, we weren’t able to cover accommodation ourselves.
If anyone needs help with booking, please let us know by the end of November – rooms run around 60–110 € per night, and usually need to be booked and paid for in advance.

The Ceremony

On the big day, we’ll all meet in front of the Reformed Church in Košice at 3:45 PM, and the ceremony begins at 4:00 PM.
After the ceremony, there’ll be time to share your wishes with us and hand over any cards.

Wedding Gifts

Since many of you will be traveling a long way to get to the wedding, please don’t bring material gifts – with transport in mind, that would just be an unnecessary hassle.
What would make us happiest instead is a monetary gift.

Reception & Dinner

At 5:15 PM we’ll walk together to the second venue, about a 15-minute walk, arriving around 5:30 PM, where a light buffet and beer will be waiting for you. We’ve also prepared a small gift for you, which you’ll receive during the evening. The bouquet toss will happen around this time too.

After the buffet, dinner will begin. The cake cutting will happen later, once dinner is finished.

I have one request for everyone here – feel free to take photos or videos of us during the cake cutting.

Traditions & Party

After the cake cutting, the party begins, where we’ll be blending several cultural traditions that you’re welcome to join in on too.

There’ll be a French serenade for the couple, as well as a Hungarian-Slovak tradition – the capping of the bride (“čepčenie” in Slovak) – at midnight.

This will be followed by the traditional bride’s dance, where a symbolic contribution is collected in a pot or basket for anyone who wants to dance with the bride.

We want to keep the tradition alive, but we’re not asking for much – just a symbolic token, like a lottery ticket, or even just 50 cents, whatever feels right to you.

After that comes a midnight buffet, and the party will continue on until about 3–4 AM.
